Carl B. (Swede) Johnson, the son of Ben and Rose (Bietz) Johnson, was born on October 30, 1912 in Bassett, Nebraska. He attended the Lincoln Country School and Nishnabotna High School.
On September 17, 1942, Carl entered the United States Army Air Corps, and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge on February 6, 1946. During his time in the service, he was active in the Glide pilot branch of the Army Air Corps.
Upon returning from the service, Carl worked and farmed for area farmers. He was then employed by the Burlington Northern Railroad, where he worked for over 40 years. In 1974, Carl moved to town to live with his sister, Rachel. Due to a decline in his health, he became a resident of Pleasant View Nursing Home in September, 2007. He passed away Sunday morning, December 16, 2007 at Community Hospital, Fairfax, Missouri at the age of 95 years.
Carl loved to hunt and fish, and especially enjoyed his garden.
Besides his parents, Carl is preceded in death by four brothers, Lewis, Ray, Bill and Richard Johnson; and one sister Rachel Neff. Carl is survived by three sisters, Irene Daniels, Independence, Missouri, Florence Leonard, Bonsall, California and Lucile Johnson, Rock Port, and several nieces and nephews.
