Evelyn (Davis) Hord

December 12, 1944 - July 26, 2026

Evelyn Marie (Davis) Hord, the daughter of Leroy and Zella (Mills) Davis, was born December 12, 1944, in Hamburg, Iowa. She attended Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri, graduating in 1962. Evelyn then attended and graduated from Gards Business School, St. Joseph, Missouri. She was employed for Criswell Oil, St. Joseph, later St. Joseph Flying Service, where she obtained her commercial pilot’s license.

 

In 1974, Evelyn was united in marriage to Jerry Hord of St. Joseph. Together, they operated the bowling alley in Hamburg, for several years. The couple moved to Evansville, Indiana in 1985. Evelyn was then employed as a Traffic Coordinator for the Distribution Complex of TJ Maxx. Upon retirement, the couple returned to Rock Port to be closer to family.

 

Evelyn was very active member in 4-H in her youth, winning several blue ribbons. She was a valued Board Member of the Rock Port Senior Center. She was also a member of the Community Hospital Auxiliary, and Rock Port American Legion Auxiliary, holding several offices including President.

 

Evelyn was a very kind and gentle person. She has a wonderful sense of humor and a great love for her “four legged” kids. They were like her children. Evelyn loved all her nieces and nephews, always had a kind word for them. She “symbolically adopted” the Meyerkorth girls when they were neighbors and shared many amazing memories with them. Evelyn was an excellent seamstress and altered numerous prom dresses for her nieces. Evelyn passed away Sunday, July 26, 2026, in St. Joseph, at the age of 81.

 

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Floyd Davis. Survivors include husband, Jerry Hord; brother, Elmer (Kathy) Davis; stepdaughter, Stacey (Robert) Arbuckle; nieces and nephews, Lee Ann (Rick Cockle) King, Tracey (Roy) Ashcraft, Kelly (Di) Davis, Jeremy (Jill) Davis, Andrea (Scott) Herrick; numerous great nieces and nephews, cousins, and her beloved dog, Molly.

Funeral Service: 1:00 P.M., Saturday, August 1, 2026, Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.

Open visitation begins 9:00 A.M., Friday, July 31, Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 P.M., Saturday, prior to the service.

Interment: English Grove Cemetery, Fairfax, Missouri.

Memorials: Rock Port Senior Center or Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49, Rock Port.

Arrangements: Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
