John Douglas Summa
John Douglas “Doug” Summa, the son of John Lester and Virginia Lee (Wilmes) Summa, was born October 13, 1952, in Maryville, Missouri. He attended Maryville High School, graduating in 1970. He then attended Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, and the University of Wyoming, School of Pharmacy, graduating in 1977.
On October 23, 1971, Doug was united in marriage to Carla Jean Ingels in Maryville, Missouri, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. They celebrated 41 years of marriage this year. Doug owned and operated Summa Pharmacy in Tarkio, Missouri, for 27 years. In 2007, he sold his business to Pamida, in Tarkio. Doug then managed the Pamida pharmacy, which is now the Shopko Hometown Store.
Doug was community minded and cared deeply for Tarkio. He was a member of the Tarkio Lions Club, Slo Rollers Car Club, Heartland Educational Institute, St. Paul’s Parish Council, Wing Nuts Experimental Aircraft Association, all of Tarkio, as well as numerous other organizations in the past. Doug passed away Saturday, October 27, 2012 at his home in Tarkio at the age of 60 years.
Besides his father, Doug was preceded in death by his grandparents, aunts and uncles. Survivors include wife, Carla (Ingels) Summa, of the home, Tarkio; sons, Jason (Kathy) Summa; Seward, Nebraska, and Wesley (Laura) Summa, Kansas City, Missouri; daughter, Marli (Robert) Hannah, Rose Bud, Arkansas; grandchildren, Max, Aidan, Abby, Owen, Harley and Gus; mother, Virginia Summa, Maryville, Missouri; sisters, Becky (John) Sullivan, Leawood, Kansas, Valerie (Jim) Riddle, Kansas City, Missouri, Joni (Mike) Nelson, Keller, Texas, Gina (Tim) Mackey, Maryville; brother, Kevin (Carol) Summa, Kansas City, Missouri; aunt, Maxine Moran, Maryville; mother and father-in-law, Harold and Beverly Ingels, Maryville; sister-in-law, Carolyn (John) Schroeder, Maryville; brothers-in-law, Bill (Bonnie) Ingels, Maryville, and Bobby (Judy) Ingels, Colorado Springs, Colorado; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
