Hollis E. Makings
Hollis Ellen (McVay) Makings, the daughter of Amel Lee and Sarah Ellen (Jones) McVay, was born April 8, 1927, in Auburn, Nebraska. She attended Auburn Public Schools, Auburn, Nebraska.
On November 11, 1945, Hollis was united in marriage to Leslie Arnold Makings . In 1951, they moved their family from St. Joseph, Missouri, to the Rock Port, Missouri, area.
Hollis was a loving wife and mother who devoted her life to raising her children. After Arnold’s passing in 1969, Hollis worked at Betty’s Hilltop Cafe until retirement. Hollis passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013, at the Community Hospital-Fairfax, Fairfax, Missouri, at the age of 86.
Besides her parents and husband, Hollis was preceded in death by her sister, Abbie Reberry; brother, Amel LeRoy McVay; and by her son-in-law, Jerry Wood. Survivors include her children, Ellen Wood, Joplin, Missouri; Peggy Clodfelter and husband, Duane, Seward, Nebraska; Richard Makings and wife, Shirley, Rock Port; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
