Phyllis J. McKenney
Phyllis Jean McKenney, the daughter of Orville Keith and Verna Elizabeth (Owen) Wolf was born June 11, 1946, in Hamburg, Iowa. She attended Lone Cedar country school and Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri, graduating in 1964.
On July 13, 1967, Phyllis was united in marriage to Rex A. “Tony” McKenney, at the Linden Christian Church in Rock Port. They made their home northwest of Rock Port their entire married life and became the parents of three children, Michael, Mark and Anna Marie.
Phyllis enjoyed being a homemaker, caring and raising her children on the family farm. She also worked for a short time for the Atchison County License Bureau and Atchison County Social Services Children’s Division. Phyllis was a member of the Linden Christian Church, served as a club and project leader for Northern Highlighters 4-H Club and was a former member of the Women’s Lone Cedar Club. She also enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines. Her greatest joy in life was her time spent with her grandchildren. She loved supporting them at livestock shows, sporting events and music concerts. Phyllis went to be with her Savior Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at Bryan LGH Medical Center West, Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 68.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her in-laws, Ed and Joy McKenney and brother-in-law, Phillip McKenney. She is survived by her husband, Rex A. “Tony” McKenney, of the home; three children, Mike McKenney and wife, Tricia, Bedford, Iowa, Mark McKenney and wife, Christi, Rock Port, and Anna Plattner and husband, Randy, Marshall, Missouri; six grandchildren, Jacob McKenney, Clara McKenney, Kade Plattner, Montana Plattner, Ariana McKenney and Breana McKenney; great-granddaughter, Piper McKenney; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
