Larry Ralph Chambers, the son of Ralph and Catherine (Pocius) Chambers, was born March 17, 1939 in Tarkio, Missouri. He attended Bartlett Country School and Tarkio High School. Larry joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country in active duty and the reserves from 1956 – 1962.
After receiving his honorable discharge, Larry returned to Tarkio where he owned and operated two businesses in Rock Port, and was employed by Missouri Beef Packers. He then became the owner-operator of a tractor-trailer, hauling throughout the United States. He later drove over the road for Diversified Chemical Company out of Joliet, Illinois, until ill health forced his retirement in 1996. In 1998 he returned to Tarkio, where he lived to the present time. Larry enjoyed spending time at the Tarkio Nutrition Center, where he ate lunch, delivered meals, served in the dining room, called bingo, visited with friends and played a lot of cards. Larry also worked as the center’s handy man, staying on top of any need. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR. Larry was a member of the Suburban Teamsters Union of Northern Illinois Local #179, Chicago, Illinois, and the American Legion.
Besides his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his brother Ronnie Chambers and brother-in-law Tom Struble. Survivors include his daughter and son, Melisse Goff, and Scott Chambers of Prescott Valley, Arizona; three grandchildren, Kelsey, Hunter and Sylvan; brother Darrell Chambers and his wife Sheri, Sioux City, Iowa; sisters, Jeanne Struble, Galesburg, Illinois, Carolyn McEnaney and her husband Don, Tarkio, Bev Christians and her husband Dennis, Rock Port, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
