Lloyd Robert McClurg, the son of Earl R. and Margaret L. (Shannon) McClurg, was born September 3, 1922 in Maryville, Missouri. He attended the Bloomfield Grade School in his youth and graduated from Horace Mann High School in Maryville. Lloyd graduated from Northwest Missouri Teachers College, also of Maryville, with a Bachelor’s of Science in Industrial Technology.
Lloyd served his country during World War II in the Air Force as a radio technician on Tinian Island one of the Mariana Islands.
On May 21, 1950, Lloyd was united in marriage to Wanda Lee Grace. This year they celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. They lived and farmed south of Pickering, Missouri where they raised four children. Lloyd passed away Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Golden Living Center, Maryville, at the age of 86 years.
Lloyd was a member of the Laura Street Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities including: deacon, Sunday School teacher, and bus greeter. Lloyd was also a member of the James Edward Gray American Legion Post #100 of Maryville.
He enjoyed working in his workshop making wooden toys for his grandchildren and hundreds of bird houses for 4-H Clubs, Boy Scouts, and anyone enjoying wildlife.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ralph McClurg. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Lee, Maryville; daughters, Cora Lee Konecny and husband, Ron, Kearney, Nebraska, Grace Carmichael and husband, Jerry, Columbia, Missouri, Nancy Mann, Independence, Kansas; son, Fred McClurg and wife, Marty, New Liberty, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; one great grandchild; sisters, Cleta Salyers and her husband, Tommy, Malvern, Iowa, Jeanie Stocks and her husband, Art, Mason City, Iowa, Letha Jackson, and her husband, Leland, Kansas City, Missouri.
