Ellen Simpson
Ellen Simpson, the daughter of Arlo Cornelius and Mary L. (Weston) Hays, was born April 28, 1928, in Watson, Missouri. She attended the Mayflower Country School northwest of Rock Port, and graduated from Rock Port High School in 1948.
On December 19, 1949, Ellen was united in marriage to Harry Thompson and they became the parents of one son, James H. Harry passed away September 10, 1956. On March 18, 1966, Ellen was united in marriage to Floyd Simpson in Burlington Junction, Missouri. Floyd passed away in 2000.
As a young woman, Ellen was employed as a telephone switchboard operator in Maryville, Missouri. She then worked at Kerr’s Grocery Store and Wayne Jones Laundry in Fairfax, Missouri. For twenty years, Ellen was employed as a sales clerk at Thiesfield’s Clothing, also in Fairfax. Ellen faithfully cared for her mother and husband, Floyd, in their final years. Ellen passed away Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Community Hospital-Fairfax, Fairfax, at the age of 84.
Ellen was a member of the United Methodist Church, Fairfax, the Fairfax Quilt Guild and the Community Hospital Auxiliary. She loved sewing quilts for the hospital to give away at many area events.
Besides her parents and husbands, Ellen was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Collyer and infant sister, Aliene Hays. Survivors include, son, James H. Thompson and his wife, Dana, Fairfax, stepdaughter, Shirley McAdams and her husband, Bob, Tarkio; four grandchildren, Jayme Thompson, Florissant, Missouri, Craig (Melissa) McAdams, Tarkio, Curtis (Megan) McAdams, Maryville, Missouri, Aaron (Chelsey) McAdams, Shenandoah, Iowa; six great grandchildren, Jade, Gage, Sloane, Sutton, Kaylee and Kolbe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
