Dorothy May Currie, the daughter of Ray and Alma (VanLeuven) Moore was born August 19, 1925 in rural Tarkio, Missouri. Dorothy graduated from Tarkio High School and attended two years at Tarkio College. She then moved to California to work toward the war effort during World War II.
On February 11, 1947, Dorothy was united in marriage to John Edward Currie at the United Presbyterian Church in Tarkio. They soon after moved to John’s grandfather’s family farm, Northwest of Tarkio where they raised their family and farmed as a family. They were also avid antique buffs and enjoyed traveling. Dorothy lived on the farm to the present time. John passed away in 1999.
Dorothy was a wonderful mother, grandmother and generous lady who enjoyed spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren’s activities. She was a faithful and dedicated member of the Tarkio First Christian Church. She had served as a Sunday School Teacher and was a member of the Christians Women’s Fellowship. She was also a former Girl Scout leader, mentor and volunteer in the Tarkio Elementary School. Dorothy and her beloved dog, Little Bit, also enjoyed taking friends on sight seeing excursions. She enjoyed to continue to care for her peacocks that lived on the farm. As Dorothy became ill she had made it clear to her family and Pastor Dave, that she was looking forward to her “going home” to be with the Lord and reunited with John. Dorothy passed away March 19, 2007 at Community Hospital, Fairfax, Missouri at the age of 81 years.
