Charles O. Boettner
Charles Oliver Boettner, the son of Lee and Frances (Caster) Boettner, was born February 10, 1923, in Hamburg, Iowa. He passed away on June 15, 2014, in Nebraska City, Nebraska, at the age of 91.
He attended Lone Cedar country school and graduated from Rock Port High School, in Rock Port, Missouri, in 1941. While attending Tarkio College, in Tarkio, Missouri, he joined the Army Air Corps in the spring of 1943.
On October 30, 1943, Charles married Vivian Rosenbohm in a small chapel in Tucson, Arizona, where he was attending flight training school. He received his commission and wings in April of 1944, at Williams Field in Chandler, Arizona. During the first years of their marriage they were stationed at eight bases throughout Arizona and California. First Lieutenant Boettner was stationed on Shemya, a small island in the Aleutian chain of Alaska where he flew a P-38 with the 11th Air Force, 344th Fighter Squadron. Following his discharge in 1946, Charles returned to the family farm where he especially enjoyed working with his livestock.
In later years, pitch, bridge and the activities of his grandchildren kept him entertained. Charles was a member for over 60 years of the Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49, Rock Port. He was also a member of the First Lutheran Church, Rock Port, where he served on the council several times. Charles was president of the Grange Hall Cemetery Association and a supervisor of the West Langdon Drainage District.
In the spring of 2011, Charles and Vivian moved off the farm and into a home in Rock Port. In the summer of 2012, they moved to Elkridge Village in Elkhorn, Nebraska. Besides his parents, Charles was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, J.D. Barr and Cecil Van Meter. Survivors include his wife, Vivian Boettner, of the home; three daughters, Anita (Herb) Sutter, Fairfax, Missouri, Vicki Melies, Elkhorn, and Jackie (Chuck) Perry, Sidney, Iowa; six grandchildren, Dayne Sutter, Jennifer (Troy) LaHue, all of Rock Port, Tim (Leslie) Sutter, Fairfax, Nicole Perry, Brian (Erin) Perry and Molly (Nick) Thompson, all of Omaha, Nebraska; ten great-grandchildren, Ashley Eichstadt, Eli Perry, Grady Thompson, Jovie Thompson, Kalen LaHue, Cortney LaHue, Halle Sutter, Jordan Sutter, Kamron (Crystal) Woodring and Sierra (Matthew) Kirkpatrick; three great-great-grandchildren, Everett Kirkpatrick, Payton Woodring and Parker Woodring; sister, Myna Lee Barr, Liberty, Nebraska; and sister-in-law, Helen Van Meter, Overland Park, Kansas.
