Karon Gene Southard, the daughter of William Nathaniel and Barbara Inez (Dolph) Clark was born November 29, 1942, in Burlington Junction, Missouri. She attended West Nodaway High School in Burlington Junction, graduating in 1961.

She was united in marriage to Melvin Moore and they became the parents of two sons, Melvin James Moore and Greg Scott Moore. They later divorced. On December 12, 1980, Karon was united in marriage to Marvin Southard. Karon made her home in Tarkio from 1962 to the present time.

Karon was employed at Tarkio College for several years in the cafeteria and worked in food service at the Tarkio nursing home. Karon also worked at the Rock Port Motel in Rock Port, Missouri, and then for Northwest Missouri Industries in Rock Port. Karon found it very rewarding in her position at Northwest Missouri Industries and retired in 2011.

Karon loved gardening and do-it-yourself projects. She adored all of her family and loved running around and spending time with them. Karon was a member of the First Christian Church in Tarkio and the American Legion Auxiliary Post # 199, Tarkio. Karon passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 73.

Besides her parents, Karon was preceded in death by brother, Darrell Clark; and sister, Sharon Hamilton. Survivors include husband, Marvin Southard; sons, Melvin James Moore and wife, Sally, and Greg Scott Moore and wife, Laura Kay; grandchildren, Ashley (Josh Hinrichs) Moore, Payton Taylor and husband, Elijah, Paige (Dakota Wooten) Moore, Amanda Smith, Otis Smith, Travis (Ashley Alsup) Smith; great-grandchildren, Brayden Smith, Tavyn Smith, Kayanna Diez, Gavin Fruit, Logan Fruit, Mikayla Smith and Zachery Sapp; sisters, Dianne Hayes and Janice Beggs; sister-in-law, Sandra Clark; brothers-in-law, Jeff Beggs and Harry Hamilton.

Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M., Saturday, April 16, 2016, First Christian Church, Tarkio.
Interment: Center Grove Cemetery, Westboro, Missouri.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M., Friday, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
