Coach Alsup, Forty years ago, Coach gave a young kid from Chicago the opportunity to run at Northwest Missouri State. At the time, it was a dream come true to be part of a college program, especially on a scholarship. This opportunity not only paved the way for a quality college education but also led to meeting many wonderful friends and loving souls, including my beautiful wife, Kim. Looking back, I can see how this one decision has blessed my life in countless ways. For that, I can only say, “Thank you, Coach.” You and your family are always in my prayers. Also please forgive me and the other cross-country team members for blowing up your Halloween pumpkin in 1985. I still remember the practice the next day—we definitely had it coming! With gratitude, Tom Ricker (Chicago)

Coach Al had the perfect demeanor to put up with all of us running track and cross country in our late teens and early twenties when we still knew everything. I'll forever be grateful to him for convincing me to finish out my time at NW as a fifth year senior in my last year of eligibility and earn my college letter. He was always there for us and he'll be missed by many I'm sure. RIP Coach Al and thanks for never letting me "short myself". -Ben

Richard and Mary Beth were hosting the Alsup family gathering in 2017. It was a festive event with many generations attending. They always made everyone welcome. The food was great, laughter abounded and lots of ‘remember when’ stories.

This is how we knew Coach Alsup when he started his teaching and coaching career in the small town of Farnam, NE. Though he was only with us a couple of years, he left a lifelong mark on the students and athletes he mentored.

What a beautiful man… he gave me a chance to run at NWMSU when I didn’t have any other options. He put up with my antics for 5 yrs and helped me become the man I am today. I am praying for the entire family during this time of loss.

Coach Al was something special. From mysteriously sneaking away from practices to the hours of talk radio on trips to meets or always bringing food by the track house when there were extras from meets. He was truly one in a million. He left no doubt that he cared for each and every one of his athletes. RIP coach! Tommy

I was sorry to hear about coach AL'S passing . he is a great person ,coach and a friend . we worked together at Williams liquor for a time before i became the athletic grounds supervisor . i worked many track meets with coach he was so laid back and never seem to worry about things . I remember a time when we were painting lines for A cross country meet . my painter was in the back of the gator and coach was doing the painting as i drove . coach forgot to keep the painter hose up off the ground . just as i was about to mention it ,the gator tire ran over the hose ,the hose pulled loose and we got paint every where . i never laughed so hard . i will truly miss coach AL SENDING PRAYER TO THE FAMILY
