Richard Eugene Prater, the son of Glen and Ethel (Wright) Prater, was born February 11, 1940, in Filmore, Missouri. He attended high school in Burlington Junction, Missouri.

On August 25, 1967, Dick was united in marriage to Connie Brummett at the Methodist Church in Burlington Junction. They became the parents of three daughters, Shaunna Kay, Cari Sue, and Kelli Dawn.

Dick worked as a farm hand with his dad, Glen, and then became an over the road truck driver for Darrell Grace. He later built transmission lines in federal construction. In 1967, Dick was employed by St. Joseph Light and Power, where he worked for almost 35 years as a Lineman. In 2001, Dick was employed by KCPL for two years and later Atchison County Road District, where he operated heavy equipment. Dick fully retired in 2010.

Dick enjoyed fishing, coon hunting, and going for rides on the golf cart. Dick passed away Monday, October 20, 2025, at his home in Tarkio, at the age of 85.

Besides his parents and daughter, Cari Sue Prater, Dick was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. Survivors include wife, Connie Prater, Tarkio; daughters, Shaunna Sjulin, Tarkio, and Kelli (Justin) Wulff, Grain Valley, Missouri; grandchildren, Catelyn, Luke, Lilah, Aniston, and Langdon; one sister; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service: 10:00 A.M., Thursday, October 23, 2025, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.

Open visitation begins 12:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 22, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, where the family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M.

Interment: Walkup Grove Cemetery, Fairfax, Missouri.

Memorials: Tarkio Nutrition Center or Walkup Grove Cemetery, Fairfax.
