Arthur F. (Sonny) Cook, Sr.

Arthur Francis (Sonny) Cook, Sr., the son of Charles Andrew and Mildred Irene (Allbee) Cook, was born October 11, 1941, in Rock Port, Missouri. Sonny attended Red Star Country School and Rock Port Schools to the 8th grade.

On October 1, 1960, Sonny was united in marriage to Betty Jane Bailey, in Fairfax, Missouri. They made their home in Atchison County, their entire married life. Sonny was a very hard worker, starting work at 12 years old. He was employed by area farmers as a farm hand, for True Ag, Ag Choice and Continental Grain, retiring from Bunge Grain, Brownville, Nebraska. Sonny passed away June 11, 2012, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 70.

Sonny was a wonderful Dad and Grandpa who truly enjoyed his grandkids. He loved to hunt and fish and hold large fish fry’s with family and friends at their home. Sonny also enjoyed playing pitch and aggravating his family and closest friends.

Besides his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by son-in-law, Johnny Amthor; sister, Esther Ferdig; and two brothers-in-law. Survivors include wife, Betty, of the home; two daughters, Mary Cook and Teresa Amthor; son, Sonny Cook, Jr. and wife, Cheryl; three grandchildren, Clayton Amthor and wife, Jackie, Cory Amthor and Amber Cook; one great-grandson, Brayden Amthor, all of Rock Port; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and more friends than you can count.

Services: 10:00A.M., Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
Interment: Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port.
Open visitation will begin 9:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Minter Funeral Chapel. There is no scheduled family visitation. The family will be available to receive friends at their home in Rock Port.
