Bette La Rue Mires
April 23, 1925 - September 8, 2008
Bette La Rue (Singleton) Mires, the daughter of Linwood and Roselah (Barrett) Singleton, was born April 23, 1925 in Maryville, Missouri.
She attended school at Burlington Junction, Missouri, graduating in 1943.
On August 9, 1946, Bette was united in marriage to Presley Mires in Troy, Kansas, and they made their home in the Burlington Junction area. Over the years, Bette was employed as a cook at numerous restaurants in Burlington Junction, Maryville, Missouri, and at the State Line Cafe in Braddyville, Iowa. She was a member of the Burlington Junction Christian Church and a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Bette passed away September 8, 2008, at the Nodaway Nursing Home in Maryville at the age of 83 years.
Besides her parents, Bette is preceded in death by her husband Presley, who passed away in 1988; grandson, Michael Douglas; two brothers and two sisters.
Bette is survived by her children, Robert Mires, Gallatin, Missouri, Richard (Burr) Mires and his wife Sheridan, Burlington Junction, Gina Douglas and her husband Melvin, Conroe, Texas, David Mires, St. Joseph, Missouri, and D’Ann Mires, Tarkio, Missouri; five grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services: 10:00 am, Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio. Interment will follow at the Ohio Cemetery, Burlington Junction.
Visitation: one hour prior to the services at Davis Funeral Home.
Memorials: Bette Mires Memorial Fund.
