Betty Jean Hill, the daughter of Joseph Byron and Dorothy (Rowe) Turner, was born February 11, 1941, in Sheridan, Missouri. She attended Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri, graduating in 1959. Betty then attended cosmetology school in St. Joseph, Missouri where she earned her associate’s degree.
Betty was employed as a convenience store clerk for Walter Brothers and The Wood Shed in Rock Port for over 40 years. Her hospitality was known by all the local customers, regular coffee drinkers, and travelers who visited the stations. She retired after many years of service to the community in 2021. She was an active member of Braddyville Christian Church. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, taking care of the squirrels, rabbits, and birds who visited her backyard, and attending family gatherings. Betty loved to cook and bake, and always made your favorite dish if you were visiting. She had a special ability to make friends wherever she went and treasured her family and friends. Betty also adored her dogs and enjoyed spoiling all of them.
Betty passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 83.
Besides her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her infant brother, Curtis Turner and granddaughter, Taylor McCartney. Survivors include special friend, Gordon Green of Northboro, Iowa; children, Barry (Joni) Amthor, Tarkio, Missouri, Corey (Dawn) Amthor, Houston, Texas, David (Danielle Miller) Green, Martha (Terry Skelly) McCartney, Tyril (Christy) Green; grandchildren, Rev. Bryan Amthor, Matthew Amthor, Jonathan Amthor, Ashleigh Amthor, Justin (Charlotte) Green, Kelli Wiederholt, Mackenzie (Trevor) Hale, Lacie (Deavin) Allen, Shelby McCartney, Wyatt (Camille) Green, Garrett (Twila) Green, Faith Green, Ally Green, and Oakley Green; numerous great grandchildren.
Memorial Service: 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 29, 2024, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 A.M., Saturday, prior to the service. There is no open visitation.
A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
