Billie Joan Bungenstock was born near Rock Port, Missouri on September 21, 1932 the daughter of Roy Henry and Wilma Hope Greer Voltmer. She passed away at her home in Fairfax, Missouri on Sunday, September 10, 2006 at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 20 days.
She graduated from Tarkio High School in Tarkio, Missouri in 1950 and worked for the Atchison County Library for a few years. Later she attended a community college in California.
On November 2, 1952, Joan was united in marriage to Kenneth LaVon Bungenstock at the Baptist Church in Tarkio. They became the parents of three children, Larry, Debbie and Randy. They resided in Rock Port, St. Joseph, Missouri and Kansas City, Missouri before moving to California in 1963. They returned to Atchison County in 1990 to live in Fairfax. LaVon passed away January 20, 1994 and Joan continued to reside in her home to the present.
Joan was baptized in 1945 and became a member of the Tarkio Baptist Church where she has remained a member. She was a wonderful homemaker and mother who enjoyed camping and especially enjoyed working on genealogy. Joan was also a member of the Red Hat Society.
Joan is survived by daughter, Debbie Hitt of Tarkio; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Kim Bungenstock, Fairfax; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters; Rosalie Woodring and Rita Vance, both of Tarkio, Arnelle Lansdown, Rock Port and Joyce Brown, Midwest City, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law, Chris Tunnell, Oregon, Missouri; sister-in-law, Sondra Leal, Houston, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Joan was preceded in death by husband, Kenneth LaVon Bungenstock, January 20, 1994, son, Larry Bungenstock, November 22, 2002, granddaughter, Belinda Bungenstock, 1979, brother, Duane Voltmer, 2000; grandparents, Carl and Electa Voltmer, Tony and Edith Greer, and step-father, Arnold Garst.
A memorial service was held at 2:00 pm, on Wednesday, September 13, 2006, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, with a private family inurnment at a later date. Memorials may be directed to C.A.R.E. of Atchison County. No visitation is scheduled.
