Carl Frederick Sickman, the son of Frederick William Henry and Mary Marie Caroline (Broermann) Sickman, was born November 5, 1917, on the family farm, three miles southwest of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He attended High Bank country school for 8 years and Northboro public school for 2 years. After his sophomore year, Carl quit school to help on the family farm.

On June 9, 1942, Carl enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1946. On March 14, 1945, Carl was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Vette at St. John’s Lutheran Church. They became the proud parents of two children, Wanda and Lee Roy.

Carl lived and worked on the family farm his entire life. His time spent in the service would be the only time Carl ever lived away from the family farm he dearly loved. During the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, Carl was employed with the Rock Port Sale Barn. His health forced him to move into Tarkio, Missouri in 2006. He was baptized, confirmed, and a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Carl passed away January 6, 2010 at the Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Center in Tarkio at the age of 92 years.

Besides his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, who passed away September 21, 1983; one granddaughter, Maridee Leigh Sickman, who died in infancy; and three brothers-in-law, Paul Holliway, Lee Joesting and Allan Wilson. He is survived by his daughter, Wanda Samson, Fremont, Nebraska; son, Lee Roy Sickman and his wife, Mona, Tarkio; two grandsons, Tyler Sickman, Shenandoah, Iowa and Austin Sickman, Maryville, Missouri; two sisters, Marie Joesting, Nebraska City, Nebraska and Louise Wilson, Holdrege, Nebraska; one brother, Marion Sickman and his wife, Miriam, Fountain Valley, California; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
