Carl Lawrence, the son of Robert E. and Della Mae (Ellison) Lawrence, was born August 23, 1924, in Chadwick, Missouri. He attended Walnut Grove country school in Chadwick, Happy Hollow country school in Colorado, and then high school in Battlefield, Missouri.

 

On July 10, 1944, Carl was united in marriage to Ella Marie Hampton in Tarkio, Missouri. They made their home in Tarkio their entire married life. Marie passed away September 8, 2004.

 

Carl left home at the age of 12 to join the harvest crews that travelled from Texas to Canada. When he came to the Tarkio area, he worked on the Burr Oak Ranch and Christianson Ranch. He also worked for Lloyd Terwilliger as a mason. He bought his first truck, a 1940 GMC, in 1945 and began a lifelong career as an independent trucker. At the urging of his banker, Carl took a leap of faith and bought his first farm in 1968, and continued to build his life of farming and trucking until his retirement in 2008.

 

Carl enjoyed fishing, hunting and boating and was very active in 4-H, Saddle Club and rodeos, even serving as rodeo board president.

 

At age 13, Carl was baptized and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at the Battlefield Baptist Church. Carl passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care, at the age of 94.

 

In addition to his parents and wife, Carl was preceded in death by brothers, Loran and Donald Lawrence, sister, Dolores Wittenborn, and son-in-law, David Ripley. Survivors include two daughters, Denise Watson and husband, Ron, Kimberling City, Missouri, and Carla Musch and husband, Tony, Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri; two granddaughters, Ronda Watson, and Lainey Ripley; one grandson, Daniel Ripley; two brothers, Elvis (Jack) Lawrence, Mount Vernon, Missouri, and Bob Lawrence and wife, Shirley, Marionville, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Service:  2:00 P.M., Thursday, January 17, 2019, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.

Interment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio.

Open visitation begins 9:00 A.M., Wednesday, Davis Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 P.M., Thursday, prior to the service.
