1940-2019

Carroll Gene Sparks, the son of Harrison J. and Pauline L. (Perry) Sparks, was born July 14, 1940, in Burlington Junction, Missouri. He attended Blanchard, Iowa, schools and Chicken Bristle, North Star, and Happy Hill country schools in northwest Missouri, and Tarkio schools to the eighth grade. On September 12, 1963, Gene entered the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, receiving his honorable discharge on September 10, 1965.

 

On March 20, 1966, Gene was united in marriage to Janice June Gust by Rev. Raines at the Assembly of God Church in Tarkio. They became the parents of two sons, Garold Eugene and Ryan Joseph and made their home in Tarkio their entire married life.

 

Gene worked for many area farmers, including the McEnaneys, Smiths, and Don Fast.  He was also employed at the Missouri Beef Packers in Phelps City, Missouri and Farm Master Gate Factory in Shenandoah, Iowa. Gene later worked resurfacing tennis courts for the Kyler Company, Tarkio and Vogel Popcorn in Hamburg, Iowa, retiring in the mid 2000’s.

 

Gene received Jesus Christ as his LORD and Savior and was baptized April 7, 1957, at this time he also became a member of the Assembly of God Church in Tarkio. Gene enjoyed fishing, watching westerns, reading his Bible, and spending time with his sons and grandchildren. Gene passed away Saturday, February 16, 2019, at Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care, Tarkio, at the age of 78.

 

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by sister, Barbara Branson.  Survivors include wife, Janice Sparks, Tarkio; two sons, Garold Sparks and fiancé, Camilla Reisdorff , Omaha, Nebraska, and Ryan Sparks, Stanberry, Missouri; two grandchildren, Dakota Sparks, and RaeNa Sparks and fiancé, Nic Sillik; four great-grandchildren, Emma Sparks, Charlotte Sparks, Kota Sparks and Nicholas Sillik; sister, Charlotte (William Long) Peterman; brother, Marvin (Esther) Sparks; three half- brothers; and two half-sisters.

 

Memorial Services: 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 27, 2019, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio

Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Open visitation begins 9:00 A.M., Tuesday, Davis Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M.
