Leola Claire Brittain, the daughter of Earl and Mildred K. (Felker) Brittain, was born December 11, 1921, in Burlington Junction, Missouri. She graduated from Guilford High School.
On January 17, 1942, Claire was united in marriage to Ivan Dean Carter in King City, Missouri. They became the parents of two daughters, Cathy Claire and Mary Beth. Ivan passed away May 18, 1983. On August 18, 1991, Claire was united in marriage to Vilas Aldie Jones at the First Christian Church in Tarkio. Vilas passed away September 8, 2002. Claire made her home in Tarkio to the present time.
Claire was employed as a dental assistant in Fairfax and Tarkio, Missouri. After retiring in the late 1980’s, she volunteered at the Tarkio Nutrition Center.
Claire was a member of the First Christian Church in Tarkio, where she was active in CWF. She was also a member of PEO Chapter FF, Tarkio. Claire loved tending to her flowers and enjoyed sewing. She was an excellent cook who made delicious pies. Claire passed away Sunday, April 21, 2019, at Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care, Tarkio, at the age of 97.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Claire was preceded in death by daughter, Cathy Carter, three sisters, and one brother. Survivors include daughter, Mary Beth Alsup and husband, Richard, Maryville, Missouri; grandchildren, Leigh Beth Alsup, Maryville, Damon Carter Alsup and wife, Kate, Blue Springs, Missouri; five great-grandchildren, Jessi and Matthew Madden, Dawson Couts, Gianna and Barrett Alsup; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service: 10:00 A.M., Thursday, April 25, 2019, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio
Interment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio
Open visitation begins 9:00 A.M., Wednesday, Davis Funeral Home. There is no scheduled family visitation.
