Claris Mather

Claris Mather, the daughter of Roy Martin and Hazel Pearl (Wolf) Wilkinson, was born January 7, 1928, near Westboro, Missouri. She attended Westboro High School, graduating in 1946.

On February 7, 1946, Claris was united in marriage to Gilbert Guy Mather. They became the parents of one daughter, Debbie, and made their home in Tarkio, Missouri, their entire married life.

Claris was employed by Gately’s Dime Store for 18 years. She was also employed as a certified nurse’s assistant and a certified medication aid at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Rock Port, Missouri, and North View Manor in Tarkio. Claris also worked in home health care and helped care for local handicapped children. Claris had a passion for helping people, young or old.

Claris was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in Tarkio, where she taught Sunday school for more than 40 years and served as a director of the Baptist Women’s group and served as a leader of the prayer group and the hospitality committee. Claris enjoyed playing the clarinet and piano. Guy passed away November 20, 1993. Claris passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014, at Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care, Tarkio, at the age of 86.

Besides her parents and husband, Claris was preceded in death by brother, Raymond Wilkinson; twin sister, Clara Laraby; and sister, Louise Cook. Survivors include daughter, Debra Lea Hall and special friend, Gary Raimey, Ridgeway, Missouri; two grandchildren, Matthew Thomson and wife, Stormie, and Tammy Potts and fiancé, Larry Brown; three great-grandchildren, Chloe Potts, Gage Crowley and Raegan Crowley; niece, Bonnie Miller and husband, Terry; and nephew, Donald Ray Cox and wife, Rita.

Funeral Service: 1:00 P.M., Thursday, August 14, 2014, First Baptist Church, Tarkio.
Interment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
There is no scheduled family visitation. Open visitation will begin 9:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 13, 2014, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
