Daniel Dean Lair was born on October 29, 1943, in Hamburg, Iowa. Dan was raised by his uncle and aunt, Chauncey and Gladys Martin and attended Sunny Slope Country School, north of Rock Port. In 1961, he graduated from Rock Port High School. He then attended two years of college at Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Missouri and at Tarkio College, Tarkio, Missouri.

 

Dan was united in marriage to Terry A. Husing on June 30, 1963, at the First Lutheran Church, Rock Port. They made their home north of Rock Port for 27 years, before moving to town in 1989. They later divorced. Dan passed away on September 1, 2011, in Rock Port at the age of 67.

 

Dan enjoyed farming the family farms north of Rock Port. In the early 1990’s he was employed by Eaton Corporation, retiring in 2002. Dan was a member of the First Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

 

Dan was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley LaMaster; aunt, Gladys Martin; uncle, Chauncey Martin; and grandparents, Frank J and Maude Brown. Dan is survived by his son, David Lair; daughters, Julee Howell and Amy Bradley and husband, Joey, all of Rock Port; eight grandchildren, Trystan Lair and wife, Maggie, Brogan Lair and wife, Mikaila, Ransom Lair, Payton Lair, Katie Howell, Nick Howell, Jackie Bradley and Abby Bradley; three great-grandchildren, Addison Lair, Dylan Lair and Kinley Lair; and three half-brothers, Bob Hines, Gene Hines and Dennis Hines.

 

Services: 2:00 P.M., Sunday, September 4, 2011, Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
Interment: Greenhill Cemetery, Rock Port.
There is no scheduled family visitation. Open visitation will begin Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 9:30 A.M. at Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
