Daniel James LaHue, the son of Bluford and Pauline (Anderson) LaHue, was born December 2, 1943, in Hamburg, Iowa. He attended Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri, graduating in 1961. He also attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri, for two years.
On June 5, 1964, Dan was united in marriage to Karen Hays at the First Lutheran Church in Rock Port. They became the parents of three children, Troy, Tasha and Trent and made their home in the Langdon area until the flood forced them to move south of Rock Port.
Dan’s life was always centered around his family. He enjoyed family time on the farm, at the lake, and at sporting events. Dan was an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent countless hours on the river with friends and in the timber hunting mushrooms.
Dan was a farmer his entire life. He loved working the ground, harvesting his crops and even with his illness, he spent a few hours in the combine this last fall.
Dan was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Rock Port, Atchison County Levee Board, Rock Port Telephone Company Board and the Benton Drainage District. He was a former member of the Rock Port School Board, Langdon Road District Board, Atchison Soil Conservation Service Committeeman, and for 40 years served as clock keeper at the Blue Jay football games and Blue Jay Relay high jump events. Dan was always thankful that he could be involved with Blue Jay athletics. Dan passed away Monday, February 23, 2015, at his home in Rock Port, at the age of 71.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include wife, Karen LaHue, Rock Port; children, Troy LaHue and wife, Jennifer, and their children, Cortney and Kalen, Rock Port, Tasha Barr and husband, Mike, and their children, Zachary, Nicholas and Megan, Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Trent LaHue and wife, Heather, and their children, Addy and Izaak, Pella, Iowa; sisters, Jane Phillip and husband, Gordon, Kansas City, Missouri, and Kate LaHue, Fairway, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M., Thursday, February 26, 2015, First Lutheran Church, Rock Port.
Interment: Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at Minter Funeral Chapel.
