Darrell Richard Sturtz, the son of Leonard and Wilma (Asbury) Sturtz, was born in Iowa City, Iowa on June 8, 1939. He attended school and graduated from Tarkio High School, Tarkio, Missouri in 1957. During high school, Darrell was active in sports, but excelled in baseball playing the position of shortstop on an American Legion All Star League team. He was also an active participant in the music program, and was a member of the Canasta Club.

On November 13, 1958, Darrell enlisted in the United States Air Force, receiving his honorable discharge on March 6, 1959. Darrell resided in several disabled veteran’s homes and was living in Knoxville, Iowa at the time of his death. He passed away July 5, 2009 at the Mercy Hospital in Knoxville at the age of 70 years.

Darrell is preceded in death by his father, Leonard Sturtz; his mother, Wilma Marrs and step-father, Woodrow Marrs. He is survived by one sister, Pat Gregg and her husband, Marvin, Oakland, Iowa and one brother, Larry Sturtz and his wife, Helen, Tarkio; numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside service and interment: Wednesday, July 8, 2009, Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
