Tarkio, Missouri

 

Debbie Volker, the daughter of Lloyd William and Audie May (Porter) Gildersleeve, was born March 27, 1951, in Hamburg, Iowa. She attended Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri, graduating in 1969. Debbie then attended the University of Missouri-Columbia, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education.

 

On August 10, 1974, Debbie was united in marriage to Alan Volker at the First Lutheran Church, Rock Port. They became the parents of one son, Brad, and made their home in Tarkio, Missouri, their entire married life.

 

Debbie was employed for 20 years as a school teacher in Macon, Missouri, Brownville, Nebraska, Westboro, Missouri, and Craig, Missouri. In 2000, she began employment as a dental assistant. Debbie was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Rock Port, former member of the Rainbow Girls and was active in 4-H and the Missouri State Teachers Association. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family, bowling, playing golf, shopping and attending Mizzou sports activities. Debbie passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014, at Garden View Health Care Center, Shenandoah, Iowa, at the age of 63.

 

Debbie was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd. Survivors include husband, Alan, Tarkio; son, Brad Volker and wife, Cassie, Overland Park, Kansas; granddaughter, Avery Volker, Overland Park; mother, Audie Gildersleeve, Rock Port; brother, Jay Gildersleeve and wife, Sue, Lincoln, Nebraska; numerous brothers and sisters-in law, nieces and nephews.

 

Memorial Service: 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 21, 2014, First Lutheran Church, Rock Port.
A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 9:30-11:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 21, prior to the service at First Lutheran Church, Rock Port.
