Delbert Ray Barker, the son of Delbert McKinnley and Gladys Lori (Riley) Barker, was born August 15, 1923, in Ava, Missouri. He attended school in Ava. On January 20, 1943, Ray entered the United States Army and served his country overseas during World War II. Ray drove an ammunition truck and participated in the Normandy, France, and German theatres. Ray was honorably discharged on December 5, 1945.
On April 13, 1947, Ray was united in marriage to Susan Jane “Betty Lou” Barker in Atchison, Kansas. They became the parents of one daughter, Priscilla.
Ray was a member of the Local #101 Iron Workers Union and traveled the country working on missile silos and other heavy construction. For a short time, Ray served as the City Marshall in Perry, Kansas. He also was employed as a truck driver and mechanic.
Ray was a member of the American Legion Post #142, Perry, Kansas Veterans of Foreign Wars and the United Methodist Church, Perry. Betty passed away June 1990. Ray passed away Thursday, May 28, 2015, at University of Missouri Hospital, Columbia, Missouri.
Besides his parents and wife, Betty, Ray was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include daughter, Priscilla Casper, Lebanon, Missouri; grandchildren, Heidi Ortiz, Camdenton, Missouri, and Sheyla Casper-Vincent, Topeka, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Krystal, Ashley, Elicia, and D.J.; sister, Mary Linda Barker, Camdenton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside Service and Interment: 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 13, 2015, Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
There is no visitation.
