Donald Eugene Schierkolk was born January 12, 1930, near Langdon, Missouri, to Yuma (Harger) and Chester Schierkolk. He passed away July 25, 2010. He attended schools in Langdon and Rock Port, Missouri. After graduating from high school, Donald enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country as a Tank Operator. On October 3, 1953, he was honorably discharged from the service and returned to Rock Port. In 1961, he was united in marriage to Jean Elder, and they continued to make their home in Rock Port. They were blessed with three children, Duane Alan, Darren Eugene and Marjorie Ann Schierkolk. Don enjoyed working hard, and was never too busy to help others on the farm or with projects. He worked at MBPXL for numerous years. He also enjoyed camping with his family.
When Jean passed away in 1990, Don moved to Pleasant View Nursing Home in Rock Port due to his health. He enjoyed gardening, tending to the flowers and sharing his garden produce with others. Don felt extremely blessed with his three grandchildren, Wyat (who died in infancy), Caleb and Ciara. He truly enjoyed the visits from his grandchildren, and loved talking to others about them. He felt they were his pride and joy!
He was preceded in death by his wife, his grandson, Wyat, his parents, and his brother, Larry Schierkolk. He is survived by son, Duane Schierkolk, and wife, Kimberly, of Shenandoah, Iowa, grandson, Caleb Schierkolk, and granddaughter, Ciara Schierkolk, of Shenandoah; son, Darren Schierkolk, and wife, Susan, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; daughter, Marjorie Schierkolk, of Shenandoah; sister, Oleta Chew, of Denver, Colorado; brother Frank Schierkolk, and his wife, Alice, of Denver, brother, Chet Schierkolk, and his wife, Sally, of Sun City Center, Florida; nieces and nephews; and his host of family of friends at Pleasant View.
Graveside Services:
10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Greenhill Cemetery, Rock Port, Missouri.
The family will receive friends at the Christian Church, Rock Port, Missouri, immediately following the service.
Open visitation will be on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, after 9:00 a.m.
