Donald L. Daugherty

Donald LeRoy Daugherty, the son of Wiley and Thelma (Perry) Daugherty was born December 5, 1943, in Hamburg, Iowa. Donald attended Phelps City and Rock Port schools.

On February 13, 1963, Donald was united in marriage to Karon (Sarah) Kay Whitney, in Rock Port by Judge Savage. They became the parents of four children; Susette, Jeffrey, Michael, and Rhonda. They made their home in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Donald logged with his Uncle Dale and his father and farmed for Raymond Ottmann. Later, he was employed by Earl May Nursery driving the mail delivery truck and KMA Radio Station as a night watchman. In 1966, the family moved to the Rock Port, Missouri, area. Donald was employed by Missouri Beef Packers as the kill floor foreman. In 1971, Donald began employment with Rolf Supply Company until they closed and then for Rock Port Coop until 1988. At this time he and Karon began the Hillcrest LP Service, which they operated together for 18 years until retiring in 2006.

Donald loved to hunt, fish, and spend time on the Missouri River. He really enjoyed carpentry, as well. Donald was a hardworking and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was always smiling and would do anything for anyone. Donald passed away unexpectedly Friday, April 10, 2015, at Nemaha County Hospital, Auburn, Nebraska, at the age of 71.

Besides his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Kunkel, and sister-in-law, Carol Shallenberger. Survivors include his wife, Karon (Sarah) Daugherty of the home in Rock Port, Missouri; his daughter, Susette Taylor and husband, Tim, of Rock Port; his son, Jeffrey Daugherty of Birmingham, Alabama, his son, Michael Daugherty and wife, LoryAnne, of Rock Port; six grandchildren, Adam Meyerkorth and wife, Courtney, of Rock Port, Micah Meyerkorth of Rock Port, Tiffany Kunkel and Daniel of Mound City, Missouri, Drake Daugherty and Kimberly of Rock Port, and Ashlynn Daugherty, Kinleigh Daugherty and Cooper Daugherty all of Rock Port; five great-grandchildren, Nora, Archer, Bertie, Briar and Blaykleigh, all of Rock Port; one brother, Bill Daugherty of Rock Port; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.

There will be no memorial services or visitation.
