Donald L. Riley, the son of Willard F. and Dolly L. (Hicks) Riley was born March 1, 1934, in Tarkio, Missouri. He attended London Country School east of Tarkio. Don served his country in the United States Army from February 6, 1957 to February 5, 1959.
On December 27, 1959, Don was united in marriage to Connie Lambert in Leona, Kansas. They lived in the Tarkio area their entire married life and became the parents of Cindy, Donald II, and Darrin.
Don farmed for Scamman Farms for 21 years on Ranch 9, east of Tarkio. In 1980, Don was then employed by Currie Farms, working for John Currie for 19 years. Following this, Don helped Darwin Houghton during the busy farming seasons. He retired in 2017.
In 1971, while attending a revival, Don received Jesus as his Lord and Savior, at the old Tarkio Baptist Church. Don became a deacon, taught youth Sunday School classes, and was currently Emeritus Deacon. In the 1970’s, Don helped start the Baptist Bus Ministry by providing rides for people to attend the Sunday services. Don loved animals, being outside and working in his yard, but he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Don passed away Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the age of 90.
Besides his parents and infant son, Donald II, Don was preceded in death by son, Darrin, son-in-law, Ronald Nelson, sisters, Gladys (Raymond) Thatcker, Ima Jean (Harmon) Deering, Beverly (John) Hunley, and brother, Elic Riley. Survivors include his wife, Connie L. Riley, Tarkio; daughter, Cindy L. Nelson, Shenandoah, Iowa; grandchildren, Jacob (Mackenzie) Riley, Bedford, Iowa, Christopher (BreAnne) Riley, Rock Port, Missouri, Hayden Riley, Fairfax, Missouri, R’Donya Nelson, Red Oak, Iowa, Torrey Nelson, Leon, Iowa; great grandchildren, Zoe and Finnley Riley, and Cooper and Carson Riley; siblings, David N. Riley, Burlington Junction, Missouri, Brenda (Randy Brooks) Daniels, Tarkio, Scott Riley, Springfield, Missouri, Angie (Steve) Jacobs Topeka, Kansas, Gary (Carla) Riley and Steve (Carol) Riley, Tarkio; sister-in-law, Karen Riley, Elmo, Missouri, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 3, 2024, First Baptist Church, Tarkio.
Interment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
Open visitation begins 10:00 AM, Tuesday July 2, 2024, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, where the family will receive friends that evening from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.
