Donald Lee Wolf
September 5, 1913 - September 30, 2009
Donald Lee Wolf was born September 5, 1913 to Tollie and Anna May (Boettner) Wolf, in the Fairview Community north of Rock Port, Missouri. He grew up and worked on the family farm with his parents, brother and sister. In his early years, he attended Fairview Country School and graduated from Rock Port High School in 1933. In high school, he sang in Glee Club and played in Orchestra and band. He made many fine pieces of walnut furniture in Manual Training and painted numerous oil and water color scenes.
On March 10, 1940, Donald was united in marriage to Esther Leigh Owen at the Christian Church in Oregon, Missouri. They spent 64 years together. Their home was blessed with two daughters, Donna and Linda. They made their home, farmed and raised their family in the Fairview Community. In 2003, they moved to an apartment in Rock Port. Esther passed away in 2005. Donald passed away Wednesday, September, 30, 2009 at Community Hospital-Fairfax, at the age of 96 years.
Donald was a dedicated farmer and enjoyed working the land as well as hunting, fishing and kite flying. He wanted to leave the land better than when he found it and made many improvements through the years. In 1945, Donald and Orville, his brother, established Wolf Brothers, on operation they worked together until 1994 when health concerns caused them to dissolve the partnership. They were dozer operators and took part in building Charity Lake. They cleared trees so they would have more land, building terraces, dikes, fills and ponds. Donald enjoyed working the livestock, especially Polled Hereford cows, which he had trained to come when he called and was known for his gentle bulls.
Donald enjoyed singing with family and the Wolf Quartet. A highlight was to hear his daughters, son-in-laws, grandchildren, and great grandchildren sing! His singing bass voice could be heard at church, or while driving the tractor or while tending cattle. Singing church hymns, playing the trombone, listening to Sousa Marches, ice skating, taking family vacations each year, going coon hunting and trapping were some of his favorite things to do. He enjoyed taking grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and neighbors sleigh riding, mushroom hunting, and fishing and would clean all the fish they caught!
He was a faithful member of Linden Christian Church where he served as Deacon, Elder and Treasurer. Donald was Vice President of the Linden Cemetery Board.
Donald leaves behind two daughters, Donna and husband, Ken Lucas of Rock Port, Missouri, and Linda and husband, Richard Stephens of Topeka, Kansas. Grandchildren, Ernest and Jill Stephens of Ozark, Missouri, Daniel and Melanie Lucas of Avoca, Iowa, Clifford and Brenda Morris of Augusta, Kansas and Jonathan and Kristen Lucas of Rock Port; eight great grandchildren, Joshua, Benjamin and Rebekah Lucas, Ella and Henry Morris, Ethan, Caleb and Ryan Lucas; sister-in-law, Jean McClain of Tucson, Arizona.
Preceding Donald in death were his wife, Esther; his parents, Tollie and Anna Wolf; an infant brother; a sister, Gladys; and a brother Orville and his wife, Verna.
