Donald P. Whited
July 17, 1917 - November 16, 2007
Donald P. Whited, the son of William C. and Ethel (Noble) Whited, was born July 17, 1917 in Martinsville, Missouri. Don attended, Martinsville, Fairfax and Tarkio, Missouri schools. Following school, he began working as a heavy equipment operator.
On September 15, 1939, Don was united in marriage to Bonnie L. Adams, in Rock Port, Missouri. In August of 1944, Don entered the United States Army and served his country during World War II as a heavy equipment operator in the Army Corp of Engineers. After receiving his honorable discharge in August of 1946, Don returned to Tarkio and formed the Whited and Sons construction company, where they were involved in soil conservation work. In 1955 he added a farming operation including cattle, being particularly fond of Black Angus cattle. He retired in 1990 and lived in Tarkio until the present time. Don passed away November 16, 2007 at Community Hospital, Fairfax, Missouri at the age of 90 years.
Don was a member of the First Baptist Church, Tarkio, where he served as a trustee, and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of North Star Masonic Lodge #157 AF & AM, Rock Port, and was a Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star. He also was a member of the Scottish Rite, and the Moila Shrine Temple, St. Joseph, Missouri. Don had served on the Board of Directors at the Bank of Craig, Craig, Missouri. He also enjoyed flying and was a private pilot.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters; Jewell Rinehart, Gladys Salfrank, Goldie Wells, Maxine Bryant, and Virginia Nuckolls; one brother, Kenneth Whited. Survivors include his wife of 68 years; Bonnie Whited, of their home, Tarkio, two sons; William (Bill) Whited and his wife, Jeanette, Maryville, Missouri, and Roger Whited and his wife Susan, Bonita Springs, Florida, two grandchildren, Lora Ceperley, Lees Summitt, Missouri, and Lauren Whited, Fairfax, Virginia; three step-grandchildren, Jim Solheim, and his wife, Joyce, Omaha, Nebraska, Bob Solheim and wife Linda, Scottsdale, Arizona, and Jane Montoya and her husband Alejandro, Minnetonka, Minnesota; two great-grandchildren; and nine step-great grandchildren.
Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, November 20, 2007, First Baptist Church, Tarkio.
Interment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
Masonic Services and Visitation: Masonic services will be conducted Monday evening, November 19th, at 6:00 P.M. at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, where the family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 P.M.
Military rites under the auspices of Ralph Greer American Legion Post #199, Tarkio
Memorials: Tarkio First Baptist Church or Community Hospital, Fairfax, MO.
