Donald R. Brewer, the son of Merlin A. and Reba (Brubaker) Brewer was born March 3, 1923, in Prairie City, Iowa. He attended Prairie City High School, graduating in 1941.

In 1974, Donald was united in marriage to Beverly Kent in Monett, Missouri. Don’s employment required the family to move several times. They made their home in numerous Kansas and Missouri towns including; Rock Port, Missouri, Kansas City, Missouri, Wathena, Kansas, and Monett, Missouri.

Don farmed in the Prairie City area. While living in Rock Port, they owned and operated a grain elevator in Nishnabotna, Missouri, and started an agricultural trucking business. Don was instrumental in building the El-Cid apartment complex in St. Joseph, and worked as a realtor in Liberty, Missouri. Following retirement, they moved to Branson, Missouri, where Beverly and Don were both employed at The Palace Inn. In 2012, they returned to St. Joseph to be near their son, Scott, and his family.

Don was a former member of the Prairie City Lions Club and Church of the Brethren in Prairie City. Beverly passed away December 22, 2014. Donald passed away Thursday, March 12, 2015, at Carriage Square Healthcare Center, St. Joseph, at the age of 92.

Besides his parents and wife, Beverly, Don was preceded in death by sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Lyle Birkenholtz. Survivors include son, Scott Kent and wife, Lisa, St. Joseph; grandson, Tyler Kent and wife, Kaydee, Nixa, Missouri; granddaughter, Jordan Kent, Kansas City, Missouri; great-granddaughter, Rigby Kent; sister, Erma Lee Roetman and husband, Ryland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside Service and Interment: 10:00 A.M., Monday, March 16, 2015, Waldensian Cemetery, Monett, Missouri.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 P.M., Sunday, March 15, 2015, at Heaton Bowman Smith Chapel, St. Joseph, Missouri.
