Doris Gwen (Thompson) Wennihan was born April 21, 1929, to Leslie and Golda (Harvill) Thompson. On September 15, 1947, she was united in marriage to Winford W. Wennihan, and they became the parents of four children, Leisa, Teresa, Mike and Matt. They farmed in Atchison County.

 

Doris was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Morning Sun Extension Club and First Baptist Church, Tarkio. Doris went to her heavenly home on April 3, 2011, at the Nebraska Methodist Hospice in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 81 years.

 

Besides her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her sisters, Marjorie Gibreal, Beverly Cobb and Peggy Jackson. Survivors include her husband, Winford Wennihan, Tarkio, daughters, Leisa Biermann and her husband, Bruce, Mound City, Missouri, and Teresa Salmond and her husband, Ed, Tarkio; sons, Mike Wennihan and his wife, Dena, Tarkio, and Matt Wennihan and his wife, Nissa, Clarinda, Iowa; ten grandchildren, Vince, Nate, Letitia, Tabitha, Ambera, Brett, Ashley, Troy, Taryn and Damond; six step-grandchildren, Bryan and Eric Krutz, Ashilyn and Tyler Nester and Trissy and Adi Williams; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Freda Faulkner, Florence, Arizona, Francis Kruger, Fort Calhoun, Nebraska and Betty Spratt, Tarkio; brothers Leslie Thompson and Johnny Thompson, Tucson, Arizona; and special family friends, Melvin and Marilyn Hicks.

 

Celebration of Life Service: 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2011, First Baptist Church, Tarkio, Missouri.
Interment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 7th, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
Memorials: First Baptist Church or Tarkio Nutrition Center.
