Dorothy Marie (Groff) Gilmore, the daughter of Ora Franklin and Lena Mae (Blankenship) Groff, was born August 26, 1920 in Peru, Nebraska. She graduated from Pawnee City, Nebraska High School.

 

On November 20, 1937, Dorothy was united in marriage to Harry Eugene Gilmore in Clarinda, Iowa. During the early years of their marriage, they lived in Pawnee City, Table Rock, and Peru, Nebraska. In 1946, they moved to Cody, Wyoming, where Dorothy was employed in food service and later owned her own restaurant. In September, 1962, they moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where she attended cosmetology school and soon after owned her own salon. In 1979, they moved to Rock Port, Missouri, where she lived to the present time. Harry passed away in 1989. Dorothy passed away and was peacefully taken home by our Lord and Savior on Friday, August 8, 2014, at Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care, Tarkio, Missouri, at the age of 93.

 

Dorothy was baptized on November 29, 1953, at the Methodist Church in Table Rock, Nebraska. She attended Grace Church of Rock Port.

 

Besides her parents and husband, Harry, Dorothy was preceded in death by one infant son, son, Charles Gilmore; daughters, Sandra Gilmore and Linda (Gilmore) Cooper; sister, Vivian Groff; brothers, Darrell Groff and Junior Groff; sisters-in-law, Janice Groff and Frances (Shipley)Groff; brother-in-law, Max Davis; and one son-in-law, Bob Slater. Survivors include, son, Garland Gilmore, Anchorage, Alaska; daughters, JoAnne Slater, Cody, Wyoming, Janice Gilmore and Kenneth Long, Whigham, Georgia, Nancy Slater and Bruce Slater, Anchorage, Alaska, Darlene Barnhart and husband, Byron, Rock Port; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Wilma Davis, Rock Port, Janet Kimble and husband, George, Deepwater, Missouri; brothers, Larry Groff, Maryville, Missouri, William Morrison and wife, Wanda, Santa Fe, New Mexico; sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Groff, Maryville and Norma Groff, Rock Port; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Graveside Service and Interment:
2:00 P.M., Monday, August 11, 2014, London Cemetery, Brownville, Nebraska.
There is no scheduled family visitation.
