Edith Louise (Slemons) Bailey was born February 15, 1930, in Rock Port, Missouri, the only child of Dennis and Hope Slemons.

Edith attended Rock Port schools and on March 27, 1946 was united in marriage to James Kay Bailey. They made their home on a farm near Rock Port where James Kay farmed. They became the parents of three children, James Michael, Jerry Kay, and Karen Lynn. Edith often remarked that these were some of her happiest years. She later began working at the Debbie and Danny Dare Sewing Factory in Auburn, Nebraska. Always as a hard worker, Edith was promoted to floor lady, a position she held for many years.

Edith and James Kay moved to Auburn in 1957 and separated in 1970. Edith eventually moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where she worked for Russ’s B and R stores and became deli manager for Russ’s 17th and Washington store, working there until her retirement. Never one to sit still, Edith worked several part-time jobs until moving to Fair Oaks Retirement Apartments in Rock Port in 1997. She reconnected with old friends, spent time with her family, enjoyed going to dances, and was blessed with many happy years there until her health declined. She then moved to Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, where she received many years of wonderful care. Edith passed away Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, at the age of 91.

Edith was preceded in death by parents and husband, James Kay Bailey. Survivors include sons, James Michael (Elaine) Bailey and Jerry K. (Kathy) Bailey both of Tucson, Arizona, daughter, Lynn (Ron) Hunter, Rock Port; grandsons, Scott Bailey, Lincoln, Nebraska, Reid Hunter (Andrea Carder), Rock Port, and Jay (Halley) Hunter, Rock Port; great grandsons, Rylan and Ethan Hunter, Rock Port.
