Edward V. Murry
1939-2017
Rock Port, Missouri

 

Edward Vincent Murry, the son of Ross Lee and Marie Doris (Fischer) Murry, was born November 15, 1939, in Watson, Missouri. He attended Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri, graduating in 1958. He attended South Dakota State College for one year. In June of 1963, Ed was drafted into the United States Army, where he served his country for two years, stationed in Korea during the Vietnam Era.

 

On November 16, 1968, Ed was united in marriage to Janice Marie Schoonover at the First Lutheran Church in Rock Port. In August of 1972, they purchased a farm south of Rock Port, where they made their home and became the parents of one son, Lance.

 

Ed owned and operated Murry Dozer and Construction in Rock Port for 46 years. He built dams, levees, wascobs, and laid drainage tile on many farms in Nodaway, Holt and Atchison Counties.

 

Ed was a member of the First Lutheran Church. He was a good pilot and loved flying his Piper J-5C Cub. He enjoyed trap shooting, hunting behind his favorite bird dog, fishing on the River and drinking coffee with many, many friends. Ed never met a stranger and loved a good conversation with everyone. He loved to tell stories about growing up, area history, his family, and especially about his granddaughter, Ava. Ed passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 77.

 

Besides his parents, Ed was preceded in death by sister, Ila Faye Smith and brother-in-law, George Schoonover, Jr. Survivors include wife, Janice Murry, Rock Port; son, Lance Murry and wife, Jessica, and their daughter, Ava Grayce, Hickman, Nebraska; sister, Sue Powell and husband, Joe, Maryville, Missouri; brother-in-law, Harold Smith, North Platte, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Betty Henry; brother-in-law, Bob Schoonover; brother and sister-in-law, Skeet Schoonover and wife, Shirley; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley Mather and husband, Dean, all of Rock Port; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M., Thursday, April 13, 2017, First Lutheran Church, Rock Port.
Interment: Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 A.M., Thursday, First Lutheran Church. Open visitation begins 9:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 12, 2017, Minter Funeral Chapel.
