Elnor Fern Levings
October 13, 1917 - August 10, 2009
Elnor Fern (Dooley) Levings, the daughter of Lighter Emmett and Audra Mariam (Snell) Dooley, was born in Monroe County, Missouri on October 13, 1917. She attended Monroe County grade school, and graduated from Paris High School, Paris, Missouri in 1934. Elnor then continued her education at Culver-Stockton College, Canton, Missouri and Northeast Missouri State University, Kirksville, Missouri.
On November 30, 1941, Elnor was united in marriage to Clint Ross Levings in Hannibal, Missouri. She followed Clint while he served his country during World War II. Following his discharge, they resided in Columbia, Missouri while her husband finished his degree in agriculture. Clint and Elnor moved to Rock Port, Missouri in 1947, then moved to Tarkio in 1951, where they have resided to the present time.
She taught school 8 years at Monroe County and 5 years in Atchison County, Missouri. She was a substitute teacher for many years. She then became the fulltime book keeper for Levings Construction.
Elnor’s greatest joy was being a grandmother. She was a member of the Tarkio United Methodist Church, Chapter FF of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Tarkio, and numerous bridge clubs. She truly enjoyed playing bridge, doing book reviews and traveling, especially flying to Canada and Arizona.
Elnor passed away Monday, August 10, 2009 at Northview Manor in Tarkio at the age of 91 years.
Elnor is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Clint, Tarkio; son, Roger Lynn Levings and his wife, Kenna, Tarkio; grandchildren, Eric Ferrell Levings and his wife, Mandy, Kansas City, Missouri and Kristy Maxine Levings, Maryville, Missouri; great granddaughters, Ally Katherine and Ava Lynn Levings, Kansas City, Missouri.
Services: 10:30 am, Thursday, August 13, 2009, United Methodist Church, Tarkio.
Interment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
Family visitation: 7:00 to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
Memorials: United Methodist Church, Home Cemetery, David Palmeiro Scholarship Fund, all of Tarkio; or Kendallwood Hospice, St. Joseph.
