Emma Jean (Morgan) Schumacher, the daughter of James Byron and Virginia Belle (McDonald) Morgan, was born November 14, 1926 at Watson, Missouri. Following her father’s death when she was 2 years old, Emma Jean and her mother made their home with her grandparents. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Rock Port on June 19, 1940. Emma Jean attended Nishnabotna and Cooper Country Schools, graduating from Rock Port High School in 1944.

 

On March 2, 1947, Emma Jean was united in marriage to Lee Edward Schumacher at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Langdon, Missouri by the Rev.D. L. McConnell. They made their home on the Schumacher family farm and raised their two children, Alan Lynn and Kathryn Kay. Lee and Emma Jean retired from farming in 1986, moved into Rock Port in 1992 and later sold the family farm in 2001. Emma Jean passed away Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Community Hospital-Fairfax, Missouri at the age of 82 years.

 

Besides her parents, Emma Jean was preceded in death by her son, Alan who passed away in August of 1983. She is survived by her husband, Lee Edward; daughter, Kay Amthor and her husband, Wally, all of Rock Port; granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Schumacher, Spring, Texas; grandson, Wyatt Amthor and his wife, Kari Beth, Rock Port and great grandson, Westyn Reed Amthor.

 

Services: 10:00 am, Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
Interment: Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port.
There is no scheduled family visitation.
Memorials: First Lutheran Church, Rock Port, Atchison County Memorial Building Foundation, Rock Port or the Community Hospital-Fairfax.

Services are under the direction of Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
