Emma Marie Winstead, the daughter of Herman Henry and Minnie Mary Flora (Sollman) Sickman, was born January 17, 1919 in Westboro, Missouri. Emma attended the Union Grove Country School in rural Westboro. As a young girl she worked cleaning homes and doing housework. She later was employed in Kansas City at the Western Union Cafe.

On October 16, 1945 Emma was united in marriage to George William Winstead, at St. John’s Lutheran Church by Rev. Nolte. They made their home in rural Westboro. In 1966 they moved into Westboro and Emma began working as a clerk in the Westboro Post Office. She retired in 1990 as Postmistress. In 2000, Emma moved to St. Joseph, Missouri to live with her daughters, Darla and Kathy. Emma passed away Saturday January 26, 2008 at Saxton Riverside Care Center, St. Joseph, Missouri at the age of 89 years.

Emma was a member of the Westboro United Methodist Church where she served as financial secretary for over 20 years, and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed sewing, quilting in the winter, gardening in the summer and was an avid reader. But her greatest joy was her new great-grandson Kendan.

Besides her parents, Emma was preceded in death by her husband George, her daughter Kathy Chandler, (October of 2007), and two sisters Lillie Blackman and Clara Sundermann. Survivors include one daughter, Darla Owen and her husband David, St. Joseph, Missouri; one grandson, Derek Owen and his wife Desiree, Lees Summit, Missouri, one granddaughter, Denise Owen Alexandria, Virginia; one great-grandson, Kendan; one sister Mabel Baker, Northboro, Iowa; son-in-law, Charles Chandler, Gilman City, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
