Emmett Edward Haer, 92, went to be with his Lord on Friday, September 3, 2021. Emmett was born on February 21, 1929 on a farm near Craig, Missouri to Edmund and Mable (Thurnau) Haer.

He attended Marietta country school until the 8th grade. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church where he remained a member until his death.

Emmett joined the military in the MoANG 1948 to 1952 at Rosecrans MAP, St Joseph, Missouri. He was activated and sent to France for 6 months.  He enjoyed traveling while over there. He has been a member Story Hardin American Legion Post 164, Craig, for over 50 years.

Emmett married Twyla Rose Thurnau on the 16th of January 1954 in Kansas City, Missouri. They were blessed by three children Johnny, Kathy and Chris.

Emmett was a farmer from birth. He farmed with his father and brothers and in the later years with his son Johnny. He retired from farming in 1981, but continue to stay busy. He was an avid flyer, building and flying his first plane, a Piper Cub in 1948. Both of his brothers and son Johnny all flew.

Emmett served on numerous boards at his church and community. He served as secretary/treasury of the Big Tarkio Drainage from 1960 until 2019. He was the Holt County Commissioner in the 80’s.

Emmett’s passion was visiting with people. He never knew a stranger. He enjoyed his daily trips to the Craig C-Store, visiting with all his friends and visitors. If he didn’t make his trips morning and night someone would check up on him to see that he was alright. Until entering the nursing home in 2018, he spent his whole life within a half mile of his birth.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Twyla Rose, his parents, Edmund and Mabel Haer, one brother, Kenneth and sister-in-law, June.
