Esther Lucile Lingerfelt, the daughter of Frank and Theresa (Smith) Chastain was born on June 24, 1914 in Rock Port, Missouri. Esther attended rural country schools in her youth.
Esther was united in marriage to Thomas Cecil Lingerfelt. To this union, three children were born; Shirley, Robert and Geraldine. Thomas passed away in 1937. Esther later married Joe Lingerfelt and they made their home in Rock Port. They later divorced. Esther passed away on August 19, 2011 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home at the age of 97.
Esther worked for many years in food service as a waitress at the Central Cafe, Sale Barn Cafe and Coach House Restaurant, all in Rock Port. She was an exceptional seamstress and enjoyed sewing for her friends and neighbors in the community. Esther was an avid Elvis Presley fan and enjoyed shopping, especially for clothing and wristwatches. Esther attended Rock Port First Christian Church.
Besides her parents and husband, Esther was preceded in death by her son, Robert Lingerfelt; daughter, Geraldine Waltz; two great-great grandchildren, Carter Westergreen and Kaeliegh Elizabeth Westergreen; brothers, Eugene Chastain, Jim Chastain, Carol Chastain and Allen Chastain; and sister, Faye Morrison. Esther is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Dean) Rowley, Altoona, Iowa; sixteen grandchildren, Veronica (Bill) Bunt, Bridget Lingerfelt, Robin Kuhns, Tom Kuhns, Mark Kuhns, Jonathan (Barbara) Waltz, Tonya (Fred) Haskins, Maureen (Richard) Wolfe, Tim (Melanie) Wood, Linda (Mike) Cress, Joe (Julie) Wood, Elizabeth Marchant, Mike (Carol) Wood, Teresa Oliver, Sean (Heather) Wood, and Shirley Stanton; 37 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis Rhoades and Gladys Harmon and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service,11:30 a.m.,Tuesday, August 23, 2011,Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port. The body will be cremated following the service. A private inurnment will be held at a later date at Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port.
There is no visitation. Open viewing will begin Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 9:00 a.m.
