Esther Marie Perry, the daughter of Theodore and Leona (Smith) Davis, was born September 7, 1927, in Langdon, Missouri. She attended Cooper Country School near Langdon, Valley View Country School, south of Rock Port, Missouri, and attended Nishna and Rock Port High School, graduating in 1945.
On August 14, 1945, Esther was united in marriage to Ralph Oliver Perry in Hamburg, Iowa. They made their home in the Rock Port and Langdon communities and became the parents of a daughter, Viola. Esther was the bookkeeper for the family businesses as they owned and operated Perry and Schomburg custom trucking, farming and corn shelling business with sister and brother-in-law, Dorthy and George Schomburg. In 1969, they purchased Long’s Liquor, which became Perry’s Tobacco and Grocery, a business they operated for 25 years, retiring in 1994.
Esther was a member of the First St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Langdon and of the First Lutheran Church in Rock Port. Ralph passed away April 21, 2007. Esther passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at Bryan LGH Medical Center East, Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 87.
Besides her parents and husband, Esther was preceded in death by sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorthy Schomburg and husband, George, and Evelyn Brusha and husband, Marvin; and brothers-in-law, Don Douglass and Warren “Bud” Lane. Survivors include daughter, Viola Fern Hendrickson, Rock Port; grandchildren, Stephania Gayle Knight, M.D. and husband, Terry, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Brian Scott Hendrickson and partner, Carmine Castaldo, Phoenix, Arizona; brother, Donal Davis and wife, Jan, Grand Island, Nebraska; sisters, Lois Douglass, Columbia, Missouri, Eva Tupa and husband, Loren, Lincoln, Nebraska, Anna Clark and husband, Bill, Belton, Missouri, Sonna Lane, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Helen McPherson and husband, Charlie, Rock, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 23, 2015, Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
Interment: Greenhill Cemetery, Rock Port.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M., Friday, May 22, 2015, at Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
