Florence “Lucy” Maudlin, was born to Clarence and Florence Leota (Page) Dailey, on January 22, 1936 in Tingley, Iowa. Her grandparents were Jack and Lucy (Jane) Dailey, and Albert and Anna Page.

Her parents were farmers and she learned the value of hard work and helping others from an early age. Both of which certainly stuck with her for her whole life.

Lucy attended country school until junior high when they moved back to Tingley, where she graduated in 1954. Education would prove to be something she valued highly as she would then go on to graduate with Summa Cum Laude with a teaching degree in Elementary Education and Language Arts in 1983. She then earned a Master’s degree in Elementary Guidance and Counseling. Lucy taught second grade at Rock Port Elementary in Rock Port, Missouri for 20 years.

Lucy married Ellis Maudlin on June 5, 1955 and was a loving wife and mother to their two daughters, Julie and Joyce Maudlin. Her motto was “Everyone works at our house.” She instilled the importance of hard work and education in her family, with both of her daughters working in education as well.

It wasn’t just working on the farm or getting degrees and teaching. Lucy had a variety of jobs including house cleaning, dishwashing, and cooking in restaurants. She was also a cashier at Hy-Vee before returning to college. Always working!

Lucy was also active in her church and community. She was a 4-H leader, Vacation Bible School teacher, Sunday School teacher, member of the Hospital Auxiliary, D.A.R., Delta Kappa Gamma, Rock Port Sorosis, U.M.W., Women’s Christian Temperance Union, UMYF, to name a FEW. She also volunteered many others places as well.

Lucy was a loving and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who wanted to help people until the very end. Like everything else in her life, she worked hard to do just that. She will be a greatly missed light in this world.

Besides her parents and husband, Ellis, Lucy was preceded in death by Ellis’s parents, Wilber and Josephine Maudlin; daughter, Julie (Maudlin) Hulley; brothers, George Dailey and wife, Alverta and John Dailey and wife, Dorris, sister, Mary Detloff; nephew, Paul Dailey and niece, Nancy Lynch and husband, David. Survivors include daughter, Joyce Maudlin; granddaughter, Julianne Hulley; nephews, Jack (Bev) Dailey and Raymond Detloff, nieces, June Wright, Jerry (Joe) Knobbe, and Kathy Detloff, and numerous great nieces and nephews, and many many friends.
