Florence Pauline Schaeffer, 93, Stanberry, formerly of Fairfax, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Northwest Medical Center in Albany, Missouri.

Florence Pauline (Whipple) Schaffer, the daughter of Lloyd Robert and Lula Marie (Burtnett) Whipple, was born in Holt County, Missouri on July 19, 1916. She departed this life on the 24th of April, 2010 after a lengthy illness at the Albany hospital. Florence had called Pine View Manor “home” since November 6, 2000. She had attained the age of 93 years, 10 months and 5 days.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, her mother and father, and four of her sisters, as well as several of her nephews and cousins. She is survived by her sister, Mary Sharp of Dayton, Ohio and her brother, Robert Whipple and his wife, Peggy of Lubbock, Texas; cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Florence was married to Raymond L. Schaffer on February 26, 1934. They were married for 52 ½ years before his passing. Although she had no children of her own, there were always pictures in her purse and on her dresser of all her nieces, nephews and friend’s children. When you stopped in to see her, she always asked, “How are the children?”

Aunt Florence loved the out of doors. She loved the birds, the flowers and she loved to go fishing when she was able. She also liked to cook. Florence used to make the most delicious cakes, cookies, candies and jello salads. Aunt Florence also loved her “home” at Pine View. She thought of all the people there as her family. We will miss her greeting as we came through the door and asked her how she was feeling. No matter how bad she felt or how much pain she may have been feeling at the time, she always said, “Pretty good for an Old Lady.”


