Floyd Galen Southard, the son of Floyd Millard and Lois M. (Russell) Southard was born May 7, 1925 in Hand, Arkansas. He attended Happy Hill Country School east of Tarkio, Missouri in his youth and also attended Tarkio High School.

Galen was united in marriage to Mary Lucille Rolofson on May 17, 1947 at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Tarkio. They lived and farmed in the Craig, Fairfax and Tarkio, Missouri areas. In September 2010, they moved into Tarkio where they lived to the present time. Galen passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 85 years.

Galen was a member of the Fairfax Baptist Church, Fairfax, and the Allen-Schiffern American Legion Post #199, Tarkio. Besides his parents, Galen was preceded in death by one daughter, Jolene Harriman and brother, Doyle Southard.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille, Tarkio; two sons, Gene Southard and his wife Roxanne, and Marvin Southard and his wife, Karon, all of Tarkio; six grandchildren, Jason, Mandy, Jamie, Greg, Jason, and Jamie; fourteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
Interment: Center Grove Cemetery, Westboro, Missouri.
Military rites under the auspices of Allen-Schiffern American Legion Post #199, Tarkio.
Visitation: 7:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2011, Davis Funeral Home.
Memorials: Tarkio Nutrition Center or Fairfax Baptist Church.
