Gary A. Stevens
1951 – 2014
Fairfax, Missouri

 

Gary A. Stevens, the son of Charles Edward, Jr. and Charlotte Irene (Gant) Stevens, was born May 14, 1951, in Fairfax, Missouri. He attended schools in Tarkio, Missouri, and Rock Port, Missouri. In 1969, Gary was drafted into the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War.

 

On April 14, 1974, Gary was united in marriage to Marita Heits at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Craig, Missouri. They became the parents of two children, Shanna and Justin. They later divorced.

 

Gary was self-employed as a plumber in the construction business, where he operated an excavator. He owned and operated a bar and restaurant, Liberty Lounge and Restaurant, in North Liberty, Iowa, and was part owner of the Downtowner in Rock Port. Gary was a member of the Allen-Schiffern American Legion Post # 199, Tarkio, and a Masonic Lodge member, Tarkio. Gary passed away Saturday, June 21, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville, Missouri, at the age of 63.

 

Gary was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include daughter, Shanna Ryser and husband, Nathan, Wathena, Kansas; son, Justin Stevens and fiancé, Stephanie Sinkhorn, Fairfax; granddaughter, Saylor Ryser; sister, Janet McHugh and husband, Lyle; two brothers, Joe Stevens and wife, Janet, and Rob Stevens and wife, Cindy, all of Tarkio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Graveside Memorial Service and Inurnment: 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 28, 2014, Home Cemetery, Tarkio, Missouri.
There is no visitation.
