Gary G. (Bogie) Bogenreif, the son of Douglas Matthew and Ann Elizabeth (Mahaney) Bogenreif was born January 7, 1934, in Sioux City, Iowa. He attended Bishop Heelan Catholic High School, graduating in 1952. Gary attended two years at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. In January of 1954, Gary entered the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged January of 1956.
On September 5, 1955, Gary was united in marriage to Kathleen Anderson in Sioux City, Iowa. They became the parents of five children, Gary L., Sherry, Lori, Julie and Margee. The family moved to Rock Port, Missouri, in 1968. They later divorced. Gary made Rock Port his home for over 49 years.
Gary began employment at Needham Packing Company in Sioux City, Iowa, and later transferred to Needham Packing Company in Fargo, North Dakota. Following the family’s move to Rock Port, Gary was employed at Cox Hide Company and Missouri Beef Packers. In 1971, he started working for Continental General Insurance Company as an insurance agent for the Don Kampe Agency in Auburn, Nebraska. Later he founded Missouri Insurance Brokers, retaining several agents throughout the state. Even in his later years, he continued to help families with their insurance needs. Gary served on the Rock Port City Council as North Ward Alderman for 16 years, 10 of which he was president.
Bogie loved having fun with family and friends. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling and hunting. Gary passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at North Kansas City Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 83.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by brother, Douglas Albert Bogenreif. Survivors include children, Gary L. Bogenreif, Westboro, Missouri, Sherry Anders and husband, Bill, Papillion, Nebraska, Lori Kent, Polo, Missouri, Julie Umbarger and husband, Mike, Westboro, and Margee Hendrickson and husband, David, Carter Lake, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and one niece.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 A.M., Monday, November 20, 2017, St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Tarkio, Missouri.
Interment: Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port, Missouri
Immediately following the burial, the family will receive friends at the Rock Port Country Club.
Visitation: Open visitation begins 12:00 P.M. Noon, Sunday, November 19, Minter Funeral Chapel, where the family will receive friends beginning at 3:00 P.M. A Celebration of Life will begin at 6:30 P.M. at the Rock Port Country Club.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials directed to Rock Port Golf and Country Club or Rock Port Ministerial Alliance Food Bank.
