Geraldine Mehaffey
October 23, 1928 - December 23, 2007
Geraldine (Ooton) Mehaffey, the daughter of Willard H. and Ruth F. (Cunningham) Ooton, was born October 23, 1928 in Larned, Kansas. Geri attended Larned High School, graduating in 1947. She then attended Dickinson Business College in Kansas City, Missouri. On October 10, 1948, Geri was united in marriage to Donald S. Raymer, Sr. They made their home in various Kansas and Colorado communities, and in 1958 moved to Parkville, Missouri. They were later divorced.
Geri owned and operated a business which helped unemployed people find work. She also worked in a ladies boutique, was the secretary at Park Hill Christian Church, worked as a receptionist, a restaurant hostess, and at the Kansas City International Airport gift shops.
On January 25, 1976, Geri was united in marriage to Jack Mehaffey at the Park Hill Christian Church. They made their home in Kansas City. On March 10, 1985, they moved to Tarkio. Due to ill health she became a resident of the Oregon Care Center in June 2006. On February 2, 2007 she moved to Northview Manor, Tarkio, where she passed away Sunday, December 23, 2007, at the age of 79 years.
Geri was a member and Elder of the Tarkio Presbyterian Church, a member of the Mule Barn Theater Guild and the Tarkio Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, XI ETA NU, where she held the various offices of the chapter allowing her to be eligible to be a member of the Order of the Rose. She was also one of the founders of the birthday club.
Besides her parents Geri was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Kenneth Ooton. Survivors include her husband Jack, of their home, Tarkio, one son Donald S. Raymer, Jr. and Mary, Branson, Missouri; two daughters, Cynthia Ruth Frederick, Gladstone, Missouri and Marianne Davis, Kansas City, Missouri; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three step daughters, Linda Lee and her husband Dave, Tarkio, Susan Slaughter and her husband Bill, Fairfax, Missouri, Karen Potter and her husband Steve, Overland Park, Kansas; seven step grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; brother Bill Ooton and his wife Ann, Franklin, North Carolina; one sister, Lynette Baccus and her husband Bobby, Decatur, Texas; sister-in-law, Marge Ooton, Weatherby Lake, Missouri, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services: 10:30 am, Saturday, December 29, 2007, Tarkio Presbyterian Church, Tarkio
Interment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio
The family will receive friends, Friday evening, December 28, 2007 from 6:00 – 7:00 pm at the Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
