H. Jerome True
September 3, 1934 - June 26, 2021
H. Jerome “Jerry” True, the son of Hiram Curtis and Eloise (Puckett) True, was born September 3, 1934 in Craig, Missouri. Also known by the name “Boss Hog”, Jerry attended Fairfax High School, Fairfax, Missouri, graduating in 1952. He then attended University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri, graduating in 1956 with his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. After returning home, Jerry farmed in the Holt County area.
On November 27, 1952, Jerry was united in marriage to Thelma Watts at First Presbyterian Church, Fairfax. They moved to Columbia and became the parents of two children, Beth Annette and Ted Alan. They later divorced. On February 5, 1981, Jerry was united in marriage to Shirley Barnhart at First Lutheran Church, Rock Port and made their home in Rock Port for 38 years. Shirley passed away April 19, 2019.
Jerry worked for numerous agricultural sales companies, traveling and selling fertilizer. In 1979, he started True Agriculture Products Inc., selling fertilizer while still managing the True Family Farm, which became a Century Farm in 1981.
Jerry was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Rock Port and Fairfax Masonic Lodge. He recently received his 50th year membership pin from Moila Shrine and was a member of the honorary agricultural organization, Ruf-Nex at University of Missouri. Jerry enjoyed traveling, dancing and listening to music, especially Willie Nelson. He loved spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks with family and friends, and hosting the annual True Applebutter Family weekend. Jerry passed away Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 86.
Besides his parents and wife, Shirley True, Jerry was preceded in death by sister and brothers-in-law, Julia (Ray) Noah, Richard Garst and Kenneth Walker; sisters-in-law, Janet True and Sandi True. Survivors include, children, Beth True, Gravois Mills, Missouri, Ted and Joni True, Rock Port, and Jill (Paul) Niece, Maysville, Missouri; grandchildren, Nathan, Micah, and Ashley Alitz, Joshua and T.J. True, Dustin and Ty Sapp, Eric Niece, and Heather Misemer; 17 great grandchildren; brothers, Everett True, Mesa Arizona, and Garth True, Claremore, Oklahoma; sisters-in-law, Jeanne Garst and Pat Walker; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Memorial Service: 1:00 P.M., Saturday, July 17, 2021, First Lutheran Church, Rock Port.
There will be no visitation prior to the memorial service.
The family will receive friends at True’s Antique Acres following the inurnment.
Inurnment: Tharp Cemetery, Craig.
